History in Avendar
As the caladaran intermingled with the other races of the Prime, their collective character rapidly transformed. Knowledge of the diversity of magic challenged their assumptions of its nature and that of mortalkind; new and war-like philosophies clashed with their long-held beliefs and axioms; and new plants, animals, and climates vastly altered their perspective on the the character of the Prime itself. Most disconcertingly, the ancient worship of both Chadraln and Jalassa began to change. The Seer's devoted increasingly divorced themselves from the monastic traditions of old, while the Arbiter's followers increasingly accepted the notion of war. Many of the most conservative caladaran sages rejected these changes, and longed for a way to both preserve and restore their heritage.
The remnants of the caladaran which remained in the Rirro Jagka suffered immensely with the coming of the alatharya, the kankoran, and the srryn. Their numbers dwindled in the face of violence, and few of their artifacts survived. Vulnerable and battered, the sages began to venerate a new deity, whom they named Alajial. Their fragmented writings describe Her as a divine child, born from the union of Chadraln and Jalassa. According to legend, her first appearance sprouted lilies from the muddy earth in which the sages toiled, offering them the first hope they had known since the departure of the last Jalassan ascetics. Optimism became a staple among them, and the lily, a sign of divine charity. It was this positivity which allowed them to finally let go of their ancient homeland, travelling to the far corners of young Avendar.
The War of Night offered the chosen of Alajial a major challenge to their doctrine of peace. As cities fell and armies clashed throughout the known world, the Her doctrine seemed divorced from reality. Yet, at the same time, it offered the first opportunities to make a name for their unknown goddess. Caladaran sages bandaged the wounded and cared for the sick, but further, offered emotional comfort to the suffering. Alajial's devoted argue that it was She who first taught them to use magic to soothe spiritual pain, before the revelation of Rystaia Lightbringer and Her ch'taren. Regardless of the truth of this claim, there is little doubt that Alajial's followers were among the first to collaborate with the ch'taren in the exploration of the magics of Spirit.
In time, Alajian scholars would grow in prominence within the Spirit school for their development of calming magics. This position gave them a newfound credibility not only with the other races of the Prime, but within other caladaran traditions. The ensuing dialog is largely responsible for the reforging of bonds between the previously-isolated caladaran philosophies. In the modern era, Alajial has taken Her place as the third in the caladaran trinity. Her benevolence and forgiveness are a beacon to many who toil in dark times, and a guide to those who place others before themselves.
