Raiders of the Twilight
Contents
Raider Basics
The Raiders of Twilight are a band of thieves and bandits, devoted entirely to the satiation of their basest desires. They live for the bloody acquisition of loot and plunder, and the notoriety that follows in its wake. Power, then, is only desired by Raiders insofar as it is a means to the satisfaction of their ends.
Originally known as the Circle of Twelve, the Raiders eventually grew in strength and numbers. Their savage attacks made their names feared throughout Avendar, and brought the attention of the dark gods, who gave them the power to become the Raiders of Twilight. With the guidance of the dark powers, the Raiders evolved into a highly efficient engine of destruction, first striking with overwhelming force and savagery, then ravaging the remains with gluttonous ferocity. Over the years, they have developed an uncanny ability to find weaknesses in their opponents, and have been known to ruthlessly take advantage of them.
The Raiders of Twilight are predominantly motivated by greed for wealth or power, and use force and cunning to satiate these desires. Raiders are never lawful, using their position as rogues outside of the bounds of society to their own advantage.
Goals of the house:
To rape, pillage, steal, filch, felch, kill, maim, murder the rest of the world. Also to people within the house.
Arkhural's revision:
The Raiders are a gang of bandits purely motivated by their basest instincs, e.g. greed, lust, gluttony, anger, etc. Unlike other houses, they are not united by any singular set of beliefs or motivations; Raiders are a strictly self-interested set of individuals, and have been known to frequently attack and/or kill each other over minor differences. The Raiders are unified solely by the fact that they can reap more for themselves by collaborating with others than they could on their own. There have been several periods in time when the Raiders were further united by a shared sense of fear/hatred, whether it was directed at the Guardians or at an iron-fisted leader.
Given the self-absorbed nature of most Raiders, those with an affinity for the sphere of water tend not to be well-suited for the life of a Raider, although this has not prevented several Raider Chieftains from inducting them as lackies. Typically composed of those individuals that were too fitful to languish within the hierarchical ranks of the thief guilds, Raiders tend to be chaotic in nature, with few-to-no compunctions about dealing-in-turn with the consequences of their violent actions. While their goals tend to vary from person to person, Raiders most frequently aspire to a lifestyle of fearsome notoriety, surrounded by riches, wenches, and cowering servants.
Raider House Interviews/Immteractions
Typically done through Feldyn, "a hooded rogue" (12120 -- see room 12150).
Feldyn info:
The rogue, known to many as 'hoody' or 'Feldyn', is in actuality, the first Raider Lord, Aralor. After systematically eliminating the other contenders for his position amongst the original Circle of Twelve, Aralor stood as the undisputed leader of the Canyon. Anticipating the onset of old age, Aralor knew that he could remain the leader of the Canyon for as long as he could fend off the rising tide of challengers.
Unwilling to relinquish his hold on power, Aralor appealed to the dark gods that had empowered the Raiders. His prayers and sacrifices were soon answered. Not only was he granted the immortality he sought, but he was further gifted with strength beyond that of mortal men, and a supernatural relation with the shadows of the world. Aralor rejoiced and marvelled at his new powerse, believing that they ensured that he would never fade from the face of Avendar.
But power comes with a price. For in attaining his powers, Aralor had unwittingly ascended to the status of a demigod, and was now bound by the divine law that binds all immortals. No longer could he freely inflict himself upon the world like a cancerous plague. Instead, the sole object of his desires now lay behind an invisible shield whose laws and workings lay beyond his grasp.
Aralor pleaded with the dark gods for a renegotiation, but after the passing of several years, he concluded that this was not to be. Since then, Aralor has bided his time, perfecting his skills, and scouring the land for ancient lore regarding his divine bondage. He maintains a passing interest in the Raider Canyon, ensuring its permanence in the lands. However, his long life has given him perspective and understanding of the cyclical nature of the balance between the Houses. He hopes to gain an understanding of the laws that bind him, and then, true to nature, subvert them, that he may once again inflict himself upon the lands.
