Lore
The lore skill, formerly trait. The trait now grants you overpercent in the skill.
Lore allows a PC to access in-character, lore-related blurbs about areas, materials, and items. Lore is a great way of conveying information about the world to PCs. This page is intended to serve as a guideline for what to include in various kinds of lore when building. If you are stymied for where to begin to describe something, try addressing one of the bulletpoints on these lists.
Areas
- Origin or founder, whether historical or mythological
- Rough location in proximity to other features of the game world
- Notable historical events that have occurred at that location
- Interesting or notable geographic features
- Goods or services the area is noted for
- Particular dangers or habitats
- Temples, shrines, or other divine influence
Materials
Materials should be described vaguely. Remember to describe the substance alone, not any hypothetical item it may be.
- Common origins, e.g. places it is found or ways it is made
- Common physical features (crystalline, metallic, a certain color, soft, brittle, liquid, etc)
- Notable associations with specific groups, races, or divinities
- Magical or medical uses
Items
There is a wide diversity of items in the world and lore on an item may be used for any reason you may have to explain the function or background of an item. In general most items with lores will be famous in some fashion, but some are merely specialized or have some other background information to convey. Don't make yourself write one, but if you think of something cool, just slap it on.
- Origins and history
- Folklore associated with the item
- Creator (person or culture)
- Reason for creation, or the purpose the item serves
- What event or person made it famous, if it is
- How it got its name, if it has one
