One of the great Powers who created the world, the god Jolinn has existed since the dawn of time as a divine being.

Long associated with healing, vivimancy and unity, Jolinn occupied the role of a father figure in the religious devotions of the alatharya, who viewed him as the guiding hand in the protection of life and purity in Avendar.

As the alatharya grew in might, they worshipped their ancient gods less and less, preferring to venerate their own achievements, and seek to make the world in their own image. When they commited the ultimate act of hubris, and attempted to steal the power of the gods for themselves, the world was nearly destroyed in the backlash of their folly.

Jolinn, wishing to save what was good in the world, expended a great portion of his own power to prepare for a time when life would be free of the horrors unleashed by the Sundering of magic. Lapsing into a long sleep, he left the world with his power at work to begin the process of rebirth.

As Jolinn slept, though, evil crept into the world, demons of flame and destruction. Surrounding his sleeping form, they wrought a dark magic to ensure he would not awaken when the time was right.

When human, aelin, and srryn cultures clashed in the War of Fire, a group of humans not under the influence of the srryn sought the sanctuary of the aelin highlands, traveling to aelin capitol of Ilodaiya, which floated high above the world-shattering battles below. Gaining the respect of and admiration of the aelin, these humans uncovered an ancient temple to Jolinn in the ruins of the alatharya atop which Ilodaiya was built.

Heeding the ancient prophecies found there, they traveled northward, seeking the castle of the Titans, a race of beings brought to Avendar to be a force for good. The Titans, though, still slept, waiting for the awakening of their god. Wintering in the castle, the humans translated the sacred writings they found there, and vowed to set course in the spring for the mountain fastness of Thaering Jad, the sacred mount where Jolinn slept.

Dogged by the savage inhabitants of the frozen northlands, they nevertheless made their way to the Thaering Jad, where they dared its labrynthine passages to the underground chambers deep beneath it. There, they slew the thirteen flame devils of Kil'Rakla, a greater power of the planes of fire. With their defeat, Jolinn awoke, and brought with him the powers of the magic of the seas, a fitting counter to the destructive power of the srryn shamans.

With the aid of the titans, and the healing power of water magic, the srryn were driven back by the followers of Jolinn and the aelin, who drove the srryn to ultimate defeat in a series of cataclysmic battles.

Following the war, the worship of the god Jolinn flourished, under the care of the Sons and Daughters of Jolinn, the followers who bore his mark. Human culture was deeply influenced by Jolinn's teachings, which to a great degree formed the moral basis of the human Republic.

Through the centuries, the followers of Jolinn have stood firm against the rise of evil, in whatever form it has shown itself. Acting both as a shield against the harming of the innocent, and a spear to throw down evil, Jolinn's teachings remain essentially the same from the days following the war of fire, when his teachings were handed down to his first followers.
