Alensha is an island in the Uthlin ocean, presumably a few days journey east from main continent (though for playability perhaps closer in actual travel time).

Features of note:

  • The city of Jh'ten: one of the ch'taren cities established after the war of night as safe-havens and refuges for the ch'taren. The city is set on a wide bay on the eastern side of the island. Over time a population base of humans, ethron, caladarans, and aelin have become part of the city, forming a more stable citizenry, as the ch'taren tend to come and go, using the city as a place of rest and refuge, a place to go when desires to mate and bear children come upon them, a place to rear and teach their children, and and place to preserve what few relics of their homeworld they still have. Jh'ten will be a seperate area, and is described in part in "Understanding in Alensha", the story found on my website at http://mirajama.tripod.com. See the Jh'ten entry for more. Its open gateway is barred by Jh'ten warders and set barriers at present, due to a plague (presumably a quest to remove the plague will be done when Jh'ten is finished).
  • The Anaima crystals: two large crystalline projects set in a myriad of small waterfalls called the Ilrel (ch'taren for "song") Cascade. These crystals are known to have restorative powers for those pure in heart, and much traffic to Alensha and to the Cascade consists of pilgrims who have come to touch the cyrstals. A variety of pilgrims are generated at the Jh'ten wharf, go to the crystals, and make the return trip. Near the Cascade stands an inn, which caters to the pilgrims and Alensha natives.
  • The Syceera: twin minarets placed at the highest point overlooking the northwest end of the island. The syceera function as a dual lighthouse, with burning globes of spirit-light at their pinnacles.
  • The Morning Whisper: A ch'taren thief guild. led by Eamr Qaval. Hidden as remotely as possible to avoid conflicts with other rogue guilds who aren't keen on thief skills used for good. For this purpose, actually located outside the city, but will have access to Jh'ten via an aquaduct (eventually) and a secret outdoor entrance. Thief training progs for stealing, throwing, lock/relock, as well as some xp for successful agility practice.
  • Mob Generators: using several 'spawn point'-type atypical mob generators for some mobs, including the pilgrims, tiger sharks in the western waters of the island, creatures in the sand on the southern beach, laborers and animals that move along the path around Jh'ten, sailors on the wharf, and fire ants in the goldenrain forest. Hordes of regular mobs too. :)
  • Zhlaniss: sea hag who is responsible for creating the yorna. Has a nasty "cache of discord", a chest which, if opened by someone, causes nasty or threatening notes to be sent to other characters as if by that person.
  • Airks: fire scholar/shady merchant kicked out of the Jh'ten arcane market. He sells some extremely expensive but highpowered items, usually found peddling to the pilgrims up on the plateau.

Quests in the area:

  • Slaying the sea-dragon: A sea-dragon periodically menances the island's western plateau, coming to feed on the sheep-like duskin that graze there. Players can slay him, and then Fandor, the "retired" swordsmith, will offer to "reforge" a sword for the player (adds a unique name to the sword, and the sharp flag).
  • Sea-sprite queen: For an hour each day, the sea-sprite queen emerges from the sea-sprite rock in the northern waters of the island. Players can give her a piece of crystal coral (found by searching the beaches around the island) in return for moderate xp or coins.
  • Recovering Coraarhur: players can find a good old treasure map carried by some evil npc adventurers which, if they can decipher it (using a few kankoran terms and chess stuff) leads to a kick-ass mace called "Coraarhur" ("midnight" in kankoran).
  • Capturing the animals: the captain of the Arafia, a merchant ship found in Shao bay, will reward players coin for capturing an boar, badger, sea eagle, or gopher and putting it into a cage in the ship's hold. The Captain knows of an animal collector who wishes to have it. The ship's first mate gives the players a net to use in the capture.
  • Killing the yorna: a yorna, a magical creature that can appear as a beautiful woman in order to lure men to its den and feed on them, has been making its presence felt on the island. Players can get xp by bringing a fang from the yorna to a search party that is looking for the young men the yorna has killed. Players (male only) have to allow themselves to be lured to the yorna's den in order to kill it.
  • Leviathan Honrak Moithe, whose parents were killed by a leviathan, asks players to finish the leviathan for him. The Leviathan is a Gogoth-type nasty out in the open ocean, which zips around through the water, has an area attack, and gives 25K xp. If defeated, Honrak will give a key for a vault in Earendam which, when taken their, gives players 200plat (the leviathan has no eq/item rewards).
