In ancient days, srryn shamans hunched in mud huts developed the first methods of tapping into the elemental force of fire. As they nurtured their rudimentary tribal magic they attracted the attention of certain forces. A formless entity embodying destructive evil was drawn to the practice of fire magic, and imparted a portion of its essence to nurture these new forces. This entity became known to the people of Avendar as Bayyal, Lord of Hatred and Destruction. The cunning and treacherous nefortu most closely matched Bayyal's personality, and he most often appears as a pitch-black nefortu with flaming eyes.
Bayyal is the patron god of fire scholars, and is thought to have been the driving force behind the War of Fire, which nearly destroyed civilization. The followers of Bayyal thirst for the destruction of all they survey, and are filled with hatred for all life and beauty. The Lord of Hatred chooses his followers whimsically, and followers who bore him or annoy him are often slain out of hand. He particularly enjoys seeing his worshippers kill one another. He marks those he currently favors with the Sigil of the Crimson Flame, and will sometimes choose a favorite to mark with the feared Sigil of the Black Flame.
Bayyal has been imprisoned and his religion is not actively followed at this time.
