In the beginning, the universe consisted of unordered material and energy, primal chaos. Three beings of order were drawn to this chaos -- one light, one dark, and one neither... This third is the immortal now known to men as Iandir.

Iandir has manifested himself mainly as a being of pure order. In the modern age of Avendar, Iandir usually appears in the image of a military leader. He is renowned for organizing the first cities of the land, and for introducing the code of laws. To see that these laws are respected, Iandir has given his blessing to the House of the Guardians. Scholars of Avendar honor Iandir for introducing the orderly magic of the Earth, millennia ago.

Followers of Iandir are branded with the symbol of the crown, either iron, silver, or gold, and are collectively known as the Order of the Crown, individually as Crownbearers. Crownbearers are rare in the land, probably because of the rigorous requirements put to them by Iandir, but are widely recognized as remarkable defenders of law and order.
